I am so glad to see you write about Benessere! Jim and I ' discovered' them a couple years ago and joined their club last year. Their Old Vine Zin is totally to die for and the Italian varietals are a nice departure from the rest of Napa. Plus they are really friendly people.

I like Cornerstone Gardens and each time I've taken someone there, they've enjoyed it too. Too often people are in such a rush to get to a winery they're afraid to stop and enjoy the other interesting sites. Jamie

I am not aware of any comprehensive list of wineries that produce sparkling wine. In Northern California some of the best are Iron Horse and J in the Russian River Valley; Gloria Ferrer and Domaine Carneros in Los Carneros; Schramsberg, Cliff Lede (S. Anderson), Frank Family, Mumm, and Domaine Carneros in the Napa Valley; and Roederer and Scharffenberger in the Anderson Valley. I had been to the Niebausm Coppola Winery several times before it became the Rubicon Estate. I enjoyed the way it was run much better and that's why I kept hosting guests from out of town to the winery. Last summer, I brought my best friend and her family from aborad there to discovered that it was completely different. I freaking hated it. It was very impersonal and those staff were just running around like headless chickens. Additionally, the tour guide did not know what she was talking about. I just really hated it and was very disappointed. It was a $150 mistake (6 peole). I will never step my foot on that winery again nor recommend it to anyone.

$25 is a person is insulting and ridiculous. If the wine were better, it might be worth it but it isn't. Sad to see Napa Valley slide further into crass, mass commercialism.

Paul and I stopped by the Frank Family Vineyards on a whim cruising thru the valley. We happened to join a group who was having a tour. The gentlemen behind the bar was tasting champagne and he was wonderful. Very warm, real and friendly, hard to do with big group. Stepped down the hall to the red room and had very special red wines. The man in this room was funny, knowledgable and very outgoing. We were very impressed with the warmth and kindness the people at Frank Vineyards expressed. I had a fun time and tasted good wine. Hats off to Frank Vineyards!
